Regions and areas
What it is for
A region is a large territory (for example "Midwest"); areas are the smaller territories inside it (for example "Kansas", or a city). Every contact with an address is placed in a region and area automatically, which drives:
- what a regional leader or ambassador can see,
- audience targeting for campaigns,
- the map's overlays.
Before you start
- Geography management access. Changes affect everyone's scope, so coordinate.
Steps: create a region or area
-
Open Regions & Areas. The tree lists regions and the areas under each.
-
Click New region (or select a region and New area).
-
Name it, then draw its boundary on the map: click to place corners, double-click to finish. Edit by dragging corners.

Steps: assign contacts
-
After drawing or changing a boundary, click Assign contacts. Contacts inside the boundary are assigned.
-
Small assignments finish immediately; large ones run in the background and show progress.

Steps: assign one contact by hand
On the contact's Location tab, choose a region and area. Manual choices override the automatic one until the address changes.
Tips and troubleshooting
- A contact with no coordinates (missing or unrecognised address) is not assigned. Fix the address on the Profile tab and click Geocode on the Location tab.
- Overlapping areas: the contact goes to the first match; keep boundaries from overlapping.
- Deleting an area unassigns its contacts; they are reassigned the next time their address changes or you run Assign contacts on a covering area.
