Bible reader

What it is for

The Bible tab is a full Bible that works without a connection once a version is downloaded. Select verses to highlight, note, tag, memorise, compare across versions, find similar verses, or start a quiet time.

Before you start

  • The first time you open a version the app downloads it (a few megabytes). Do that on Wi-Fi if you prefer. After that it is offline.

Steps: read

  1. Open Bible. Tap the book and chapter name at the top to jump anywhere; swipe or use the arrows to move between chapters.

  2. The app remembers where you left off.

Steps: change or compare versions

  1. Tap the version name to switch. Versions you have not downloaded are fetched on demand.

  2. Select a verse and tap Compare to see it in several versions side by side.

Steps: highlight, note, tag

  1. Tap a verse (tap more to extend the selection). The action bar appears.

  2. Highlight (choose a colour), Note (write and save), Tag (pick or create a label such as "promise" or "prayer").

  3. Find everything later under Library: all highlights, notes and tags, with filters and search.

Steps: memorise or start a quiet time

With verses selected: Memorize adds them to your verses; Quiet Time opens a new journal entry for that passage.

Steps: search by meaning

  1. Tap Search. Type a phrase or an idea, not just keywords ("forgiving someone who hurt me").

  2. Results are ranked by meaning. Tap one to open it.

Offline, search falls back to matching words in the downloaded text.

Steps: similar verses

Select a verse and tap Similar to see verses with related meaning anywhere in the Bible.

Tips and troubleshooting

  • Highlights, notes and tags are saved to your account and appear in the web app too.
  • A version that will not download: check your connection; a copy you already have keeps working.
  • Set your default version under Settings; it is used for verse text in Scripture memory and new quiet times.
